Here Are Seven Diagnostic Steps You Can Do

You can count on your iPhone to always work, but like any other smartphone, it has some weak points. The speaker and microphones are at the top of the list since they are analog devices with tiny vibrating elements. Moreover, iPhone repair is also very crucial for these kind of issues.

Not being able to hear incoming calls, music, or notifications is a major issue if your iPhone’s speaker is broken. Please refer to the following solutions to fix your iPhone’s malfunctioning speaker.

TIPS TO FIX YOUR IPHONE’S SPEAKER

Make Sure the Audio isn’t Silent or Muted

Your phone’s speaker could normally be functioning but muffled due to you inadvertently switching to silent mode. Make sure the Ring/Silent switch on your phone’s side is in the up position (there shouldn’t be any red showing in the switch).

Also, check that your phone isn’t set to a concentration mode like Do Not Disturb. The Control Center may be accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen; once there, make sure the Focus button actually says “Focus” and not something else. It’s possible to turn off Focus mode by tapping the option that says “Do Not Disturb,” “Personal,” or anything similar.

Check that You are not Sending Audio to Airplay

There’s a good chance it’s in Airplay mode if you’ve recently used it to stream media to a TV or another Airplay device. When in doubt, open the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen and then hit the Airplay symbol, which should be located in the upper right corner of the music player. If you’re using Airplay and the sound is being sent to another device, you can switch back to your own by tapping the iPhone.

Disconnect Audio Accessories

You may also experience this issue if your iPhone is still connected to an external audio device such as headphones, earbuds, or a portable speaker and is trying to play sound through that device. It’s possible to be unaware that another device is playing the iPhone’s audio if the iPhone’s volume is turned down or the other device is out of earshot. Having no additional iPhone accessories plugged in and turning off Bluetooth should fix the issue. To temporarily disable the Bluetooth radio on your iPhone, pull down the Control Center from the top of the screen and tap the Bluetooth icon.

Turn off Bluetooth

If audio is transmitted from the iPhone to another device, the speaker will not play the sound. If your iPhone is delivering sound to another device, like a Bluetooth speaker, you might not be able to hear anything.

If that’s the case, disabling Bluetooth will prevent audio from playing through the speaker and instead use the iPhone’s internal speaker. You may disable Bluetooth by going to Settings > Bluetooth and then toggling the switch to the off (white) position.

Update the Operating System

Updating the operating system can solve software problems. Bugs in the software are also addressed and corrected in newer versions. There may be an issue with the current version of iOS preventing the speaker from functioning on your iPhone.

Much like restarting, this isn’t likely the solution, but it might work. Additionally, it’s not a big risk to give updates a shot because they’re usually offered for free and can be installed in minutes.

Restore your iPhone

A full iPhone restore is the only option to confirm that the speaker is indeed broken. First, ensure you have a backup of your iPhone, then refer to my post on DFU restoring an iPhone.

You’ll be able to tell instantly if the problem is fixed after the restoration. Verify that your iPhone’s volume is maxed out and not in silent mode (step 1) (see step 2). The setup process for your Wi-Fi network and Apple ID will begin as soon as you type in your password.

The software on your iPhone is no longer a suspect if the speaker still doesn’t work or sounds muffled; unfortunately, this points to a hardware failure with your iPhone. Not to worry, though, since there are viable solutions for fixing a broken iPhone speaker.

Clean your Speaker

Is there something in the way, or is the speaker dirty? That might be why you can’t hear the DJ’s music. Taking off your iPhone cover and screen protector, if they are interfering with the speaker, is the first step in cleaning your iPhone’s speaker. Once you’ve done that, see if it’s dirty. Carefully remove any lint, filth, or grime using a small, dry, soft-bristled brush if necessary.

Restart your Device

If you’ve followed these steps and the speaker still isn’t working, you may have a malfunction that may be fixed by shutting off your iPhone and then turning it back on again. Doing so can help remove any bad files or faulty software that may be preventing your speaker from functioning properly. The speaker may need to be retested once you have restarted your iPhone.

Check your Sound Settings

If some types of audio aren’t playing on your iPhone, you may want to double-check the volume or accessibility settings. Launch the Settings app and select the “Sounds & Haptics” option. To increase the volume of the ringer and alerts, move the slider to the right. You should be able to hear the sound; if you can’t, you may need to contact Apple Support or a third-party expert.

Conclusion

Your last resort is to speak with a phone repair shop in Tampa, such as Tellfix, for specialized assistance if none of those above fixes work.
